But the council is maintaining an emergency service via its out of hours number 01823 351411.
Leader Anthony Trollope-Bellew said: “Our prime concern is for our residents and their safety. West Somerset is used to coping in bad weather – but this is exceptional.
“Although our offices have had to shut people can still get in touch if they have an urgent problem and need our help.
“We are working very closely with partners who are doing a magnificent job in keeping roads open and emergency services running.
“We can all play our part by keeping the strain on those services to a minimum. Please don’t travel unless it’s absolutely essential and please help your neighbours if you can.
“I’d also like to thank parish and town councils in the area for their hard work and commitment. Farmers, too, have been helping to keep roads open where possible. Our overall message is to stay safe and don’t take any unnecessary risks.”
