The submission was made at the end of March by the Leaders of the two existing councils, Cllr John Williams (Taunton Deane Borough Council) and Cllr Anthony Trollope-Bellew (West Somerset Council).
The proposal is for a single, new district council bringing the two geographical areas together. The new council, combined with modernising and streamlining operations, would deliver savings to the public purse of £3.1m a year.
The Secretary of State will consider the proposal and make a decision in due course.
Released jointly on behalf of Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council
