Housing Framework Review

    Housing Framework Review

    Housing Framework Review

    Thursday 08 February 2018

A review of the Somerset Strategic Housing Framework is taking place and housing providers, housebuilders, communities and members of the public have their chance to get involved.

The Framework is prepared by the Somerset Strategic Housing Partnership (SSHP), comprising Sedgemoor District Council, South Somerset District Council, Mendip District Council, Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council as well as Housing Associations, Exmoor National Park and Somerset County Council.

Its’ priorities are to deliver strong and effective strategic leadership, a local economy that provides opportunities for all, homes in Somerset that are good for health and a society that supports the vulnerable.

The review is timely in that housing issues are rising fast to the top of the national agenda. It began in 2017 when each district and the County Council produced housing market profiles to highlight key issues, achievements, opportunities and challenges.

This was followed by a ‘Stakeholder Engagement Event’ where over 100 people representing the local housing market met to discuss areas of concern, and suggest possible priorities and ideas.

All the information has now been gathered and analysed to shape the draft Framework which sets out the priorities and ambitions for housing in Somerset until 2023.

The public consultation on the draft Somerset Strategic Housing Framework runs until April 30th.
