Employers are discovering the benefits and value of linking to West Somerset’s Community Employment Hubs.

Local employer Pearl Leyshon from Girl Friday Somerset, based near Watchet said:

“Watchet’s Community Employment Hub, has become an invaluable asset for Girl Friday Somerset enabling us to meet people looking for work.

“Someone I met via Watchet’s Sanctuary hub started as a cleaner in Easter last year. She has now developed her own small business and registered herself as self-employed which has given her the confidence to enrol in a full time business degree at Somerset College.

“She continues to work with Girl Friday Somerset and I now use her services to help with the administration of the business”.

The benefits are equally valued by those looking for work or career development as explained by Pearl’s protegee.

“Walking into Watchet Community Employment hub, I was greeted by a host of the friendliest people who directed me to Pearl. She gave me work instantly while encouraging me to follow what I had always wanted to do - go self-employed.

“She helped me set up and I began to find other work and from here my confidence soared. Without The Hub’s support I would never have met Pearl, I am so grateful to them. I hope others read this and find their true potential also.”

Cllr Karen Mills, Lead Member for Economic Regeneration and Tourism, said:

“The community employment hubs are an innovative approach for employers to access local employee engagement. Employers are encouraged to build relations with their local hubs to connect local people to local employment opportunities.”
