The Somerset Building Control Partnership was launched at the beginning of June with the aim of providing a one stop building control service for the communities of Mendip, Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane and West Somerset.
The service, which is non-profit making, undertakes a wide range of responsibilities with regard to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of people in and around buildings. This can range from ensuring that anything from the installation of a new window to the construction of large complex new builds comply with all relevant standards and regulations. The partnership also provides an out of hour’s service, on behalf of the Councils, which deals with dangerous structures. Nigel Hunt, Partnership Manager, said “This is an exciting opportunity for building control to develop into a truly customer-focused service, which is independent, impartial and publicly accountable.
“The partnership is made up of a team of experienced surveyors with unrivalled local knowledge which will offer its customers a first-class service.”
A key part of the partnership is the launch of a new website which provides information on the many aspects of building regulations needed by residents of Mendip, Sedgemoor, Taunton Deane and West Somerset when constructing, altering or extending properties.
“The website provides 24/7 access to our services and includes online submissions and appointment bookings, public access and frequently asked questions,” said Mr Hunt.
“We have worked hard to ensure that the whole experience of meeting Building Regulation requirements is easier to understand and our customers can rest assured that any questions they can’t find the answers to on the website can be dealt with by any of our qualified surveyors. This new partnership will streamline the building control services between the four councils while providing customers with a first class professional service.”
