A service, with a fee charged, is offered to collect large or bulky items from homes in Somerset, but there are also free alternatives you may be able to use.
If you have good quality furniture or an appliance suitable for reuse, see below for details of how to donate items to local reuse groups, who may be able to collect these items from you.
Types of bulky waste collected include beds, wardrobes, washing machines, fridges, freezers, TVs, tables etc.
The charge for this service is £41.50 for one to three items and £11.50 for each additional item, up to a maximum of five items. (Valid from 1 April 2017).
Bulky waste collections will be made Monday to Friday between 7am and 3pm, within 2 weeks of the customer request.
Bulky items should be left outside the house but within the curtilage of the property (to avoid obstruction of footpaths). Collection staff will not enter homes, sheds, garages and outbuildings.
To request a collection please complete the online form Bulky Household Waste Collection or contact Customer Services on 01643 703704.
*Please note that no refunds are given if the request is cancelled by the customer*
Furniture Reuse Groups
If a householder wishes to get rid of an item that is reusable - for example furniture that has a fire safety label, this material can be collected from them for free via their local furniture reuse project.
The furniture will be passed on to people who would not otherwise be able to afford to buy these items. The Furniture Group will arrange a collection day within 2 weeks of the request. The items should be kept indoors or under cover until collection day. It is important that all items meet current safety standards.
