It is now easier to install microgeneration equipment in domestic properties without the need for planning permission, so long as the proposed equipment has little or no impact beyond the host property.
Wind turbines and air source heat pumps are not yet permitted development. However, once standards have been established which address the potential impacts of noise and vibration these technologies will also enjoy permitted development rights.
More about the installation of solar electricity (photovoltaic's), small scale wind turbines, solar thermal (water heating), ground source heat pumps, small scale hydro electricity, biomass and micro-combined heat and power (CHP) with regard to costs, maintenance, grants, planning and building control issues, etc. can be found on the Planning Portal.
