National Grid signed a connection agreement with EDF Energy and has a legal obligation to connect Hinkley Point C by 2019. The connection is needed to make sure the country continues to have reliable supplies of electricity into the future. It will carry power from the proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point and other new sources of energy planned in the South West.
National Grid applied for development consent to build a new electricity connection between Bridgwater and Seabank in Avonmouth on 28 May 2014. Following a six month Examination (19 January 2015 - 19 July 2015), the Planning Inspectorate issued a report of recommendation to the Secretary of State on 19 October 2015.
On 19 January 2016 the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change made The National Grid (Hinkley Point C Connection Project) Order 2016.
Details of the National Grid proposals, the Decision and the consultation process is available on the National Grid website.
