Climate Change

Climate Change provided the authority with major opportunities to:

  • reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by ensuring that all our assets are as energy efficient as possible.  This has helped to reduce our running costs and has resulted in lower energy demands. Through actions from our Carbon Management Plan we have already achieved our 2015 target of a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions, see Carbon Management Plan
  • work with partners to develop and prepare adaptation plans for future climate change and extreme weather events in the district. See: Shoreline Management Plan and for proposals on future developments in the district: Local Plan to 2032 Preferred Strategy Consultation.
  • continue to work in partnership with other organisations through the Local Carbon Partnership - West Somerset & Exmoor to achieve actions from the West Somerset Climate Change Strategy to help reduce the district’s carbon footprint, see Climate Change Strategy.
