Your bill explained

A guide to help you understand your council tax bill.

This guide will help you to understand where to find:

  • Your account number
  • Your account banding
  • Your instalments and how you pay
  • How your charge is worked out

Council Tax bill

  1. This is your account number. You will need this to talk to us about your bill or to make a payment online.
  2. This is the date your council tax bill was issued. Any payments made after this date will not be shown.
  3. This is where your property valuation band is shown. To understand banding please see Council Tax bandings.
  4. This is how your charge is worked out and the percentage change from last year.
  5. This is will show any exemptions or discounts that have been applied to your bill
  6. This shows your barcode which can be used to pay at any PayPoint outlet
  7. This is the total amount you have to pay for the year
  8. This will show you how you pay your bill, for example Direct Debit. If you do not currently pay by Direct Debit and wish to do so, please complete a Direct Debit mandate
  9. This will show your monthly instalments and the amount payable
