Get Business, Get Digital

Get Business, Get Digital is a programme of free workshops and one-to-one support available to Small Businesses and Sole Traders in West Somerset. The programme offers workshops on practical subjects including starting up, book keeping basics, and building digital marketing campaigns. Within each topic area there are workshops at different levels to cater for the varying stages of business development.

South West Growth Hub

The Heart of the South West Growth Hub aims to simplify access to business support throughout Somerset and Devon. Enquiries can be about anything that a business may want to ask; whether you are looking for information on new funding opportunities from grants or loans, where to go for tax advice or help with their expansion plans, innovation or export.

The signposting service is offered free. The service is accessible through  by calling 03456 047 047, or face to face by attending workshops and clinics taking place at enterprise and innovation centres across the HotSW area. Alternatively email to register interest with the Growth Hub Service.

Growth Support Programme

A support package which offers an initial 3 hour diagnostic to businesses wishing to grow or expand. A face to face meeting with with a business advisor to develop a business plan and identify areas where additional support could be provided. Further support is also available.

Start Up and Grow

Supports pre-start businesses that have the potential for growth and offers an intensive support package including one-to-one advice with an experienced business advisor, business skills workshops, telephone and and email support culminating in the preparation of a business plan.

Enhance Social Enterprise

Social Enterprises, or those aspiring to become one, can benefit from this service. There is support to develop and launch new products and services or to enter new markets. The service is open to voluntary and community sector groups seeking to transition into trading social enterprises as well as to budding entrepreneurs in need of help to develop their ideas to start trading.

Business Growth Service

The Business Growth Service helps those businesses who have the right level of ambition, capability and capacity to improve and grow. It brings together a broad range of expertise, so that you can get the right advice and support to fulfil your growth potential. Talk through your business issue with a personal account manager. Available to businesses with fewer than 250 employees and a turnover of under £40m.

Skills for Growth - Fully funded training courses to help your business grow

Available to the following business sectors: Leisure and Tourism; Health and Social Care, Construction, Business and Professional services, Advanced Engineering, Biosciences and Health, Marine Engineering
For small or medium sized business working in any of the above sectors and looking to up-skill the workforce. Training is flexible, to suit the needs of the company and also delivered on the business  premises ( if suitable). Funded training opportunities for Rural Businesses

A new programme is launching over 2015looks likely to focus on adults working in the agricultural, horticultural and forestry sectors or on rurally located small business. There may be training opportunities to sign up to. Check this link as details of the new programme are announced throughout 2015.

Innovation for Growth

Run by the University of the West of England and available to both small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large companies, the Innovation for Growth scheme can part fund research and development projects with grants of between £25,000 and £150,000 -

SW SME Business Assist

The National Composites Centre (NCC) is committed to encouraging SMEs to explore the use of composites, and to helping innovative smaller businesses break through into the ever-changing technological world. To this end, they offer a wide range of support and guidance services, enabling businesses to explore the possibilities that composites can bring to their business. Initial discussions are free of charge, and ongoing support can be provided in a number of ways: networking, knowledge clusters, consultancy, potential collaborative projects, possible funding opportunities, and most notably the use of state-of-the-art research and development technology to create prototypes and carry out testing.

Business Start Up Courses
