Land Charges

The VAT element on Local Land Charge Search Fees will be implemented by April 2017

Local Land Charges provides a highly efficient and accurate level of service to Solicitors, Agents and members of the public requesting Search Applications to be made against residential/commercial properties and land within the District. Under the Government's code of practice we are required to process searches within ten working days. Since April 1999 we have consistently achieved well above average performance and we aim to achieve 100% of searches being returned within five working days.

The Council has a statutory duty under the Local Land Charges Act 1975 to maintain an accurate and up-to-date Register of Local Land Charges affecting land and property in the District. Details of any charges that are registered to land and property are listed in the District Council’s Local Land Charges Register.

As the custodians of official local information, we can provide you with fast access to the information you need, to complete your official conveyancing searches.

If you would like an officer from Land Charges to contact you, please complete the General Enquiry form.

Personal Searches of the Local Land Charges Register can be carried out during normal office hours 09.00 to 4.30 Monday to Thursday and 9.00 to 4.00 Friday  at West Somerset House, Killick Way, Williton TA4 4QA.

There is a computer and full instructions in the Reception Area on how to carry out a Personal Search. No appointment is necessary and no fee is payable for carrying out the Personal Search although there may be a nominal printing charge for any entries printed out.
