Commercial Waste

The requirements of Sections 34 and 47 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 place a Duty of Care on all producers of commercial waste in that they must ensure all such waste is stored and disposed of in a proper and safe manner:

"YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STORAGE AND DISPOSAL OF THE COMMERCIAL WASTE YOU PRODUCE", Environmental Protection Act 1990, Sections 34 & 47

This, in most circumstances, would involve arranging a contract with a waste disposal firm who in turn would ensure the supply of a proper storage container and the legitimate disposal of your waste.

Somerset Waste Partnership have a list of companies offering recycling and refuse collections to businesses in the Somerset area on their website. Business recycling and refuse contractors.

Businesses have a responsibility to set up an agreement/contract with a licences waste carrier to dispose of their waste. Payment is made to the contractor as non-domestic rates do not include refuse collection.
